Last 2 days I've viewed a whole bundle of ancient temples and monuments. All impressive but some more so than others. The living temples are much more fascinating than the monuments but understandably no photography is allowed within and besides, I don't believe any photo could ever do the warm dark cave like interiors justice.
As for the monuments and museums etc, the authorities seem to have ruled out taking any interior shots, not even selling 'photo' permits, meaning I was reduced to snatching sneaky illicit shots for posting here.
In no particular order you'll find pictures below of a fine temple in Srirangapatnam the Maharaja's incredible summer palace in the same town, some shots of the awesome 12th century Somnathpur temple and finally a couple of sneaky peaks from the amazingly silly Mysore Palace, the best aspect was the way they light it up on Sundays. You tube clips below.
Next stop is Mangalore tomorrow, which is a 7 hour bus ride. Knee still not perfect but it's holding up with the aid of some tight bandage support.

A glimpse of the forbidden to photo interior |

No photo can do the detail of the temple carving justice |

But here's a little bit of what covers the entire building. |

The Mysore palace is like an oversized Brighton pavilion and not half as nice |

Maybe the lights make it look a little more special |
